Violation: Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen told Time magazine that he loves Fidel Castro and respects him for staying in power for so long.
Explanation: It's usually not the greatest idea for someone in the public eye to talk politics. It's an even worse idea to talk politics and express admiration for a ruthless dictator like Fidel Castro. And to bring the issue to a full circle, it's the worst idea to give props to Castro if you're gainfully employed in the city of Miami, which is essentially the Cuban-American capital with a community of over 850K people.
Punishment: The Miami Marlins have suspended Ozzie for five games, but that is likely the least of his worries. Advocacy groups continue to pressure the organization to fire Guillen and will most likely continue to demonstrate against him for the rest of his tenure there -- it's not the ideal first week on the job, to say the least. While I do not agree with his suspension and respect his right to free speech, I can't help but shake my head at his ignorance. C'mon, Ozzie.
